Cardi B's $4 million judgment against blogger Tasha K has been upheld, and the rapper will continue to seize assets.
On Tuesday, an Atlanta jury awarded Cardi B nearly $3 million in punitive damages and attorneys' fees in her libel lawsuit against celebrity gossip YouTuber Tasha K.
The sum is in addition to the $1.25 million that jurors handed down on Monday after finding Latasha Kebe, or Tasha K, responsible for defamation, invasion of privacy, and inflicting mental distress on Cardi B, aka Belcalis Almanzar.
Tasha made several videos on her YouTube channel, which the rapper from Bodak Yellow referred to. The blogger stated in the tapes that Cardi had previously worked as an escort, had an STD, and had used hard narcotics. According to Cardi B's 2019 lawsuit, the YouTuber began a campaign of "blatantly libelous remarks" against the rapper in order to promote Kebe's celebrity gossip website "for her personal financial gain."
In a 2018 video, rapper Kebe claimed she "prostituted for a living," "had herpes," "used molly and cocaine," and that her "then-unborn child may have intellectual problems."
Moreover, Kebe was charged with declaring on Instagram that Cardi B was "just a Grammy-nominated prostitute spreading her herpes," and said the YouTuber "had developed an obsession with defaming Plaintiff. Kebe has released at least 23 videos about the plaintiff in the previous 14 months."
Cardi B received $1 million on Monday to cover her pain, suffering, and reputational damage in addition to another $250,000 for medical costs from the federal jury in the northern district of Georgia, where Kebe resides.
On Tuesday, the jury mandated that Kebe and her firm, Kebe Studios LLC, each pay an additional $500,000 in punitive damages. Kebe must also pay Cardi B $1,338,753.47 in compensation for the personal expenses she incurred in filing the claim. According to Lisa F. Moore, Cardi B's attorney, the final verdict was close to $4.1 million.
In a brief statement to Variety, Sadeer Sabbak, who defended Kebe in the case, said: "We disagree with the ruling and we will be launching an appeal."
Cardi B claimed in a statement to Variety that she felt "victorious " to be able to move away from this after being the target of relentless libel and slander for almost four years.
As RadarOnline.com first reported, Cardi has already started the process of collecting on the $3.8 million owed. The rapper fired off subpoenas to Tasha’s bank demanding it turn over any money she held.
